Pipeline Construction

We have been installing water mainlines and associated pipeline infrastructure throughout WA for both the public and private sectors.  During this period, our trained installation teams has successfully completed numerous projects that has resulted in the trenching and pipe installation of hundreds of kilometres of pipework. The team is skilled at installing different types of pipe, from PVC, Steel, PE and MSCL pipe.  Over the years they have successfully completed projects in many locations and encountered a wide range of ground conditions.  The sizes of pipelines that have been installed vary from 110 mm up to 300 mm.

In addition to new pipeline installations, Digga Civil has successfully removed existing pipelines (due to deteriorating condition etc.) and replaced them with new mainlines.

Additional pipeline services include:

  • Preparation of Work Plans and JSA’s

  • Survey / set out

  • Clearing and earthworks

  • Rock breaking

  • Traffic / rail management

  • Installation of scour, gate and isolation valves and associated off takes

  • Anchor block / thrust block installation

  • Directional boring, pipe sleeving and grouting

  • Disposal of decommissioned pipes, valves and pits.

  • Accredited Asbestos removal (including Asbestos Cement pipe (AC) removal and disposal)

  • Pressure testing / flushing and disinfection of pipelines

  • Site restoration (removal of excess / contaminated material)

  • As constructed drawings.

Pipeline Installation

Over the past 20 years, Double L Construction has installed (and removed) hundreds of kilometres of various types of pipes and fittings.  Some of the more common pipes to be installed include PE, Steel, PVC and Ductile Iron pipes.  All of these pipes have different characteristics and it depends on the design, pressure and location of the pipeline as to which pipe suits the particular project.

Some examples of Pipeline installations using the various types of pipes:

PE Pipe:

Replace 1000 meters existing 100 mm AC main pipe with new DN 125 PE 100 PN16 and replacement of 400 meters of DN 125 GI pipe with new DN 125 PE 100 PN 16 pipe and associated fittings, including bends, gate valves.  New scour valve arrangement to be below ground and another gate valve, market posts and anchor / thrust blocks to be installed.  Remove / dispose (to current legislation) AC pipe, road crossings and driveways to be sleeved and grouted.  Pressure test, disinfect and provide As Constructed Drawings

Steel Pipe:

1) Replace existing steel pipe with new DN 300 and DN 250 MSCL pipe including associated fittings, anchor / thrust blocks, services.  Road crossings to be 560 mm PE sleeve pipe.  Reconnect to existing asset, pressure test for 2 hours and disinfect.  Provide As Constructed drawings

2) Replace 391 OD MS pipe with DN 400 MSCL including associated fittings and valves, including site drainage, trench and backfill, reconnection into asset, pressure test and disinfect pipeline. Provide as Constructed drawings

PVC Pipe:

1) Replace 1 700 meters of 100 mm galvanised steel with DN 100 PVC class 20 RRJ pipe.  Excavate along existing pipe and install to Water Corporation Standard 63, including link ins and associated fittings.  Pressure test and disinfect pipe once installed.  Provide As Constructed drawings.

2) Trench and lay new pipe approx. 1 400 meters of DN 150 MPVC PN 16 RRJ including take offs, CI fittings and valves, link to existing asset x 2, pressure test and disinfect.  2 000 meters of DN 100 MPVC PN 12 RRJ with road crossing x 2 in DN 125 PN12.5 plus 2 x water services, 2 x air valves, 100 mm Scour valve and pit, inline 100 mm valve.  Link to existing asset, pressure test for 2 hours, disinfect.  Supply As constructed Drawings

Ductile Iron Pipe:

Replace 1580mts existing 178 OD S Main with DN150 DICL RRJ Pipe & associated bends, fittings including 2 x air valve arrangement, 2 x scour valve arrangement, thrust block, concrete overhead, reconnect 2 x existing Services, removal of portion of asbestos bitumen wrapped MSCL pipe.
